Significance of Satya Narayan Katha

Lord Satya Narayan is the manifestation of Lord Vishnu who symbolises eternal truth. Satya Narayan is an amalgation of two words:

Satya means Truth Narayan means The Highest Being ( God) 

Thus, Lord Satya Narayan is an embodiment of truth and truth itself. Satya Narayan Puja is being performed from ancient times. This Puja is mentioned in Skanda Purana. It is believed the Narada Muni asked Lord Vishnu for a solution to end all the miseries and sadness of people residing on earth. As a result, Lord Vishnu himself told, that worshipping Lord Satya Narayan will lead to ultimate Happiness and Moksha in Kaliyug.

When and Who can perform Satya Narayan Katha?

  • This puja can be peformed by anyone irrespective of caste, creed, age and gender.
  • Generally, people perform this Puja on Birthdays, after marriage, before entering their new house, at the time of examinations, before launching new business or an initiative, or any special events.
  • This puja can be performed on an ordinary day. One need not wait for any special ocassions or festivals to perform this puja. Also, some puja can solely be done on certain tithis like Ekadashi or Purnima; but Satya Narayan Puja can be performed on any day.
  • Certain Rituals and Pooja require longer preparation period, many pandits and a lot of time. Satya Narayan Pooja can be done in a compartively shorter period of time, where the main purpose is to invite people, recite the Katha (story) associated with the puja and distribute Prasad (Naiveidhya offered to God).

 

Importace of Prashad (Naiveidhya)

Prasad plays a vial role in the Satya Narayan Katha. Prasad is equally important as that of Katha itself. Those who are not able to perform puja can get the same benefits by being a part of Satya Narayan Katha and accepting Prasad.
